Sight Reseen

January 23rd, 2011

The very best part of travel for me is not that it changes me, but that it changes the way I see things. Or more accurately, it allows me to see once again. This blue clothesline over a mossy wall would never have caught my eye at home. Everywhere I go, I’m seeing with refreshed eyes. The food packaging, the window displays, fruit stalls with cups of pomegranate seeds to-go, chimney pots against the sky, the slightest gradations in winter grays and cloud formations…I have transplanted eyes.

that is my very favorite aspect of travel – seeing the world like it’s all new. it truly is a gift to yourself.

  3. Yes, travel forces us to be an observer more than a participant. It’s good for the soul, especially the soul of an artist.
